Cycling routes not to be missed in Brittany Finistère

Vélo dans le Finistère

Do you also want to take a breath of fresh air for a weekend, to get away from it all and feel disoriented for a few days? Why not pedal on the picturesque circuits of Brittany? There are dozens of them (by the sea, in the heart of the countryside or on the banks of the canal). Today, we have decided to take you to Finistère. Here we go!

Cycling routes in Finistère

It is still nicer and more inspiring to be on greenways rather than on major roads. How lucky we are to have a choice! The France Vélo Tourisme website offers you an interactive map to discover all the greenways in Brittany.

Places not to be missed in South Finistère

  • Pointe du Raz: How else to describe the Pointe du Raz if not as a breathtaking place? It is one of the most visited places in Finistère and we quickly understand why! Start with a walk in its moors before finding yourself on its cliffs, with a view of the lighthouses of La Vieille and Tévennec. Don’t turn back if the weather is not good, the spectacle of the waves breaking there is even more impressive!            Finistère lives up to its name. It is the End of the Earth because further away, it is America! Find out more in our article Cap Sizun and the Pointe du Raz
  • Penmarch: It is in the Bigouden region, between Penmarch and Le Guilvinec, that you can enjoy a bike ride by the sea. Don’t forget to stop for a few moments at the port of Penmarch to discover the famous Eckmühl lighthouse, a little further on take a break at the Pointe de la Torche where the ballet of surfers on the incessant waves will offer you a breathtaking show. Continuing along the solar wind road that superimposes the Véloroute, you will be able to admire a magnificent view of the entire Bay of Audierne.
  • Bénodet: To eat and rest after a good bike ride, we advise you to stop in the seaside resort of Bénodet – the 5-star seaside resort! You can visit the Seaside Museum which traces the history of the city, take an excursion on the Odet boats that will lead to the Glénan Archipelago (Breton Tahiti!) or end the day by walking along part of the Breton Riviera to admire the sunset on the beaches of Beg-Meil !

Places not to be missed in North Finistère

  • Brest: A nice excursion to get there is to take the Nantes to Brest canal. A green walk to pedal in the heart of Brittany. Throughout your walk, you will be able to admire these 236 locks which are real technical feats! Brest is rich in activities for the whole family. These include the Océanopolis aquarium and its fifty tanks, its National Maritime Museum which traces the history of the Brest arsenal and the French navy or the Brest harbour, a bay of more than 180 km² on which you can practice windsurfing, sailing or even optimist!

  • Crozon: Opposite Brest is the Crozon peninsula. Do you want to get a change of scenery based on places worthy of the most beautiful postcards? It is on the side of Camaret-sur-mer or Cap de la Chèvre that you will have to go. We also advise you to take the coastal path by bike that leads to the famous Phare du Petit Minou which indicates which route to follow to return to the bay of Brest.

Le Conquet: Once you arrive in Brest, you will have the opportunity to head to the famous port of Le Conquet to go hiking on the islands of Ouessant and Molène. Don’t miss the Pointe Saint Mathieu, further south, which mixes steep cliffs and the ruins of an old abbey!vélo dans le FinistèreThere are still many places to discover, this list is not exhaustive! We invite you to find them throughout your cycling route to have the happiness of the surprise!

Have a nice weekend!
