The Maison Pavie is nestled in the heart of Dinan, a medieval town in the Côtes d’Armor. Built in the fifteenth century and classified as a Historic Monument, the building with its porch and half-timbering is one of the emblematic pieces of this city of Art and History.
Nicknamed “The Barefoot Explorer”, the great traveller, explorer, ethnologist and photographer on the banks of the Mekong River, Auguste Pavie, was born here on 31 May 1847, and lived there for its first few years. He was the first French vice-consul in Laos (1887), then became Consul General of France in Bangkok in 1892, then Commissioner General in Laos in 1893.
Facing the square in front of the Saint-Sauveur Basilica, it opens onto a bright and quiet square and stands a stone’s throw from the English garden with a unique view of the Rance and the port of Dinan from the top of the city ramparts.
